John Brewer's Tavern, an American-style restaurant and bar with three eastern Massachusetts locations, announced on Facebook that it would close its Malden restaurant, located at 7 Highland Avenue, at the end of the day on Monday, July 24.
"Closing is not an easy thing to do, but it is the right decision at this time, for our family and our other locations," wrote owners Bill and Sue Honeycutt in a Facebook post.
The eatery was known for its classic pub food, including wings, ribs, and quesadillas, but also offered more specialized fare, including New England clam chowder, burrito bowls, and turkey tips.
The venue was also a frequented spot for sports fans to watch games on one of 14 high-definition plasma televisions.
"Best Mac n cheese, great apps, and overall awesome food," wrote one Yelp reviewer about the newly-closed restaurant. "Bartenders and servers are very efficient and the atmosphere is relaxed and not rushed. Great place to come to any day of the week, especially on a game day!"
A slew of locals and restaurant regulars responded to the owners' post announcing the eatery's closing.
"Thank you for everything you did for the community and the best spinach dip on the planet," wrote one commenter. "Brewers will always hold a special place in my heart... Congratulations on a great 15 years."
"Sad for us but for Bill and Sue it was such a great accomplishment," wrote another commenter. "You two made many people happy thru the years there."
The Waltham and Oak Bluffs of John Brewer's Tavern will remain open and seven of the Malden location's employees will transfer to work at one of the other locations.
